Distressed paint finish?
After working on a design and the task of making a piece of furniture is
done, the time consuming and highly skilled painting processes take place: -
1. Firstly, an under colour of chalk paint is applied
2. Then under-painting of (usually) red ochre to mouldings, bevels and other decorative
elements
3. Further under painting of metallic colour – often gold
4. Followed by a top colour of chalk paint, often complementary in tone but not always
5. The painted surface is now given a coat of clear wax
6. Distressing next to reveal the various layers of under-painting
7. A coat of dark wax is rubbed in to reveal the graining and age the paint effect
8. The second and third coats of clear wax are applied
9. Polishing takes place after 24 hours
10. Then, finally, the piece receives its final polish after curing for a week
All done by hand – but it’s called elbow grease!
